Modern Shaman

We partnered with Hmong-American actor and filmmaker Gregory Yang and director Kang Vang of Team Chow Fa Productions to produce Modern Shaman, an independent film and series pilot, serving as director of photography, editor, and designing the poster art for the film.

Shooting Modern Shaman was a fun challenge because we needed to create different looks to correspond with each environment: real world, theater world, and spirit realm. It was a great opportunity to really explore lighting and camera work from both a technical and creative standpoint.

Modern Shaman is about a young Hmong Shaman who discovers a passion for acting. The poster art for the film was inspired by theater posters and program art and invokes a sense of mystery, spirituality and duality.
